Feels like we only go backwards

Dress: Topshop | Necklace: Urban Outfitters

I bought this dress to wear on Boxing Day - the day when all the family reunite. I love Boxing Day as it's literally the only day in the year when we can all get together. This bodycon midi dress wasn't the best thing to wear, as the day involved a lot of food, but I adore it. It's possibly my favourite dress at the moment. I love the long sleeves (and I usually hate sleeves on dresses) and the length is perfect. I teamed it with my military boots to add a bit of an edge to the outfit, and my UO necklace to add some detail. It's incredibly clingy though, so I may avoid wearing it during occasions that involve meals! Great quality for £28 though (quite cheap for a Topshop dress).

I can't believe 2012 is nearly over. This year has just been weird. I can't explain it any other way... I'm glad it's nearly over though. I'm going to think of some resolutions and actually make the effort to stick to them. I always fail with New Year resolutions, but because I don't want a repeat of 2012, I'm going to make realistic choices that I'm determined to keep. :)

Have you got any resolutions?

Christmas unwrapped

Onesie: OnePiece

Yes, I am now the proud owner of a onesie. I never thought I'd see the day, especially since it's by OnePiece. It's the comfiest thing EVER. I even wore it on Thursday for the entire day... I did feel a bit like a slob in the end, but it was the most relaxed I've felt in ages. I'm not overly sure why I'd need to zip my onesie right to the top though, but it made me laugh that OnePiece felt the need to give 'warnings', such as: Don't zip up your onesie to the top if you're skateboarding. Well, duh. I also won't be in a hurry to do so anyway, as I did it as a joke on Boxing Day to show the family and my brother decided to shout that I looked like a giant... Part of the male anatomy. Yes. Thanks a lot brother.

Alongside getting my onesie, I do feel very spoilt and lucky this year. As I'm now 24 (*cries*) I didn't expect much and I was more excited about seeing my baby nieces open their presents. Christmas is always so much more fun for kids. However, this Christmas I've been treated to more than I expected. A lot more.

I was treated to some expensive make-up, including two NARS products, which are my first ever products from the brand. Exciting! Also received OPI minis, Benefit and Clinique make-up and Viktor Rolf's Flowerbomb (such a gorgeous scent). My favourite DVD has to be The Family Ness. My favourite childhood cartoon! I didn't know you could get a DVD of The Family Ness, so I'm unbelievably ecstatic. So much so, I've got the theme tune going on in my head as I write this.

I also got a Zara gift card, which may not be that exciting, but I had to mention it purely because of the packaging. So much effort is put into presenting this gift card. How cute. I do love Zara and its slight personal touches the brand makes to products and orders. My new iPod Nano is my main present, to replace my older generation Nano, which is slowly losing life. I'm more into music than ever before recently, so this is definitely my favourite present of all (apart from The Family Ness)! I do love a bit of new technology in my life!

What did you get for Christmas? Hope you all had a fabulous day!

A force from above, a sky-scraping dove

Apologies for the state of my cuticles! Ewww
Playsuit: Primark

With very little time to get ready on Christmas Day, I opted for the super comfy playsuit that I bought a few months ago (but was still the first time wearing it). It was the penguin print that attracted me to buy this playsuit... I do love penguins. The peter pan collar and the collar neck chain also helped me decide to add this to my wardrobe. It's a little bit big for me (that may be because of the weight loss), but it's easily adjustable. The chunky outlines around the pockets add a certain retro vibe to it... I thought I'd get fed up of that detail but I like it because it's different to what you see normally.

I also decided to try and experiment with my nails and paint Rudolph on my thumbs... Albeit slightly wonky. I'm happy with how they turned out though, as I'm by no means an expert!

I guess the fact that this playsuit was slightly too big to wear helped me on Christmas Day, due to the masses of food consumed. I had a lovely Christmas this year, especially as I spent it with my 2 baby nieces. They're coming up to the ages where they get excited about Christmas and, more importantly, new toys! As for me, I had a fabulous Christmas with all the family and I feel very lucky right now. Including the usual DVDs, gift cards, makeup (I've got my first ever NARS product!) etc, I was treated to an iPod Nano. My old one is slowly losing life, so it couldn't have come at a better time :)

As for the sales, is it just me or are they quite disappointing this year?! I've struggled so much to find some pretty clothes to buy, especially in Zara - straight on at midnight and NOTHING I wanted in my size? Fail. Have you had any luck in the sales?

The Christmas tag

I've noticed this tag on a few blogs lately, but I kept forgetting to do it! But now it's so very close to Christmas (yaaaay), I think it's time for me to do it and Cherry's tag reminded me today. Let's bring on the Christmas spirit :)

1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
It's hard to pinpoint what exactly is my favourite thing, but if I had to choose, it would be Boxing Day. That's the day when all the family get together at my parent's house and it's just a lovely time :)

2. What is your favourite make up look for the festive season?
I don't have a make up look for Christmas. I always have festive nails, but my make up is quite natural!

3.Real tree or fake tree?
As much as I love the idea of a real tree, I prefer fake trees. We've got a small fake tree, but it looks real and is a lot easier to maintain. We have a cat who would happily destroy the real tree... And I hate the needles on them!

4. Giving presents or receiving presents?
I'd be lying if I said I don't like receiving presents! But I love seeing people's faces when I give them presents, especially if I know it's something they really wanted. My mum's face when she got her iPad last year was priceless (and it wasn't even me that bought it her)!

5. Do you open presents Christmas morning or eve/evening?
Christmas morning... But now I'm older, the time gets later so it's not too early!

6. Handmade Christmas cards or bought?
I always buy Christmas cards, as I just don't have time to make any!

7. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Muppet Christmas Carol - hands down, best Christmas film EVER. Elf is definitely high on the list... But the Muppets win for me.

8. What's your favourite Christmas food?
I honestly don't know how to answer this question. Christmas dinner is just epic. We have always have a buffet kind of thing on Boxing Day, which is great. I love eating biscuits (from Christmas tins you can buy) during the lead up to Christmas... I can see myself gaining weight already.

9. What's your favourite Christmas song?
Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree is my all time favourite! Saying that, it's not Christmas until you've heard The Pogues, Miriah Carey or Shakin' Stevens either.

10. What's your favourite Christmas memory?
To be honest, I really don't know. I think my favourite memory will be made this year, as I get to spend it with my 2 baby nieces and Christmas is just so much more fun with kids!

ghd Metallic Limited Edition styler

This month, I was given the task to create hairstyles for special occasions, using one of ghd's new limited edition metallic stylers. I was sent a metallic silver styler and I was very excited to try it out! I don't really do much to my hair, apart from straighten it... But on the odd occasion (mainly when I can be bothered to get seriously dolled up) I curl my hair. I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to curling my hair, so I was intrigued to see whether this would make the task easier!

The styler in general is gorgeous - I never thought I'd say that about an electrical appliance. The box it comes in is quite simple, but focuses on the main metallic colour. You also get a bag to put your styler in, which is heat-proof. Great when you're going away for a weekend, or just to help save your bedroom surface!

I adore the silver shade, as it looks professional, classic and smart. It's very light so it'll be easy to transport wherever. Saying that though, it feels very well-made so hopefully it will last a long time. If it doesn't, you are offered a 2 year guarantee with it so you don't need to worry.

Now for the styling. I'm not sure how to explain it. My photos aren't great at showing each step either! But here goes...

1. With some big hair grips, I concentrate on one side of my hair and half it, so the top half is clipped up. It's already blow dried and brushed (because when I've curled it, I avoid a brush at all costs), but I always make sure I've used some heat defence/protection spray.

2. I start to section the lower part of my hair, clipping back the hair I'm not curling at the time. Now, this is when I'm a bit of a mess and I just do some guesswork! I take a small section of my hair (I guess it depends on how tight you want the curls, but I only take around an inch worth of hair a time) and clip the rest to the side.

Failed on the whole 'section your hair first' bit for these, but you get to see a curl...

3. I straighten the free section of hair, but stop at around a couple of inches off the end. I twist the styler up the section of hair quite tightly, and hold it up to my head for a few seconds. I then loosen the styler so the curls (hopefully) drop down.

4. Hairspray the curl before it drops out completely!

5. I pretty much repeat the last couple of steps until each section is done. I then carefully drop the top section of my hair, ensuring the clip is still intact so it doesn't just merge with the curled hair. I then take small sections to curl and repeat step three and four!

6. I always leave my fringe quite straight because it looks a bit weird having it curled... But hopefully, my hair would now be all curly! I tend to struggle getting my hair curly on the day that I've washed it, so I always wash my hair the day before a night out if I plan to stick some curls in... It just seems to be a lot easier to style!

I can only apologise for how rubbish my so-called tutorial is. Overall, I know it's not the most exciting hair style, but I'm always restricted because I'm not very creative with my hair! It didn't take very long to curl it... I'd say around 10-15 minutes in total, which is pretty good for me! Considering the styler didn't feel that hot, I was quite impressed that it worked so well (and helped to avoid any accidental burns). The fact it's slim helped to create tighter curls as well.

The styler costs £135 and comes in a variety of metallic colours. I definitely recommend ghd - I haven't used a styler like this before, which made curling my hair more of a joy to do rather than a complete mission. Even the older generation ghd styler that I've used previously made it a bit of a task to do and I could never get it quite right! I think I'm going to start experimenting more with my hair styles..!

How do you usually style your hair for a night out?

Don't you know you got what I need

Dress: Zara | Tights: Primark | Bracelets: Primark | Rings: Handmade and Babi-Online

It's been a long time since I've worn this dress, so I thought I'd dig it out for my work's Christmas party. It's a knitted dress, so it's great to wear during winter. However, because it's a shift dress, it's quite loose so you don't get too hot when inside anywhere! I adore the embellished collar - so understated but adds a bit of 'bling' to it. It also means I don't have to worry about wearing a necklace, because of the high neckline! I need to wear this dress more often - it's just so damn comfortable and yet flattering at the same time (especially after having a meal beforehand)!

Christmas is near and my excitement is growing even more. I've finished work for the festive season now and I don't go back until 3rd January. Sweeeeet! I'm just really looking forward to seeing all the family, especially my brother, sister-in-law and baby niece who live in Holland as I haven't seen them since May! I've also got my 'Secret Santa' meal with my best friends tomorrow night, which will be lovely. So many fun times ahead :) Are you all ready for Christmas?

Say you will save me

T-shirt: Alice Takes A Trip | Leggings: Zara | Ring: Alice Takes A Trip

This has to be one of my favourite t-shirts right now. I knew I had to buy it when I spotted it in Alice Takes A Trip's stand in the Clothes Show earlier this month. Not only is the cat print really cute (can't go wrong with cats), the lace collar and bow-tie just makes it even cuter.

I haven't seen anything similar to this on the high street - I love how different it is. It's casual, yet you can wear it in so many ways. I wish the length was a little bit longer, purely so I could wear it with leggings and not worry. However, my Zara glittery leggings are that thick, I think I can get away with it!

It's been a hectic ol' week, but it's finally my last day at work before I break up for Christmas! I'm so excited right now. I had my work's Christmas party last night, which meant we exchanged Secret Santa presents. My present was a lovely Cath Kidston diary from my boss! I'm suffering big time right now though - so tired! Why does wine give you stupidly bad hangovers?
