ring the alarm

Top: Primark
Shorts: Topshop
Tights: Primark
Shoes: New Look

It may have been National Cleavage Day to some people yesterday, but I decided not to go along with it. Well, I say decided, I didn't find out what 'day' it was until later on, so it was too late. Not that I celebrate it... Yet another shorts day (but decided to wear tights as they're a bit too high for my liking)! I ended up going out during the night (jumped off the train at Worcester... Not even home), unfortunately in the same outfit that I had on all day! Swapped my blue pumps for my gorgeous new platforms (which will debut tomorrow!) and luckily I didn't feel too stupid... So I guess this outfit is pretty versatile too.

Where's the sun gone to? COME BACK. I've had a busy day today - caught up with my sister and nephews, then spent the rest of the day with my friend Laura (who you may notice me mentioned a lot on Twitter recently) holiday searching, going out for dinner and getting ready to paint the town red with the rest of my best friends. We haven't had a night out all together since New Year, so I'm very excited :)

In other news, I'm ill... I think I've got a chest infection, which is NOT good at all. Striving on tonight though, and hopefully it'll just clear up in time... Else it's the doctors for me on Monday!

Hope you're all having a fabulous weekend :)

hot right now

excuse the creases - I've been wearing this all day!
Top: Topshop
Vest: Primark
Shorts: MOTO jeans (DIY)
Shoes: New Look
Necklace: ASOS

It's apparently the last day of sunshine today... So what better way to end it than wearing a trusty pair of shorts? Dressed very casual today. I just wanted to wear something comfortable and practical to be honest. The top is always my 'go-to' top for summer. Incredibly light and thin to wear, great to throw over a vest or even wear over a bikini top when on holiday. Shame I'll probably be saying goodbye to my summer clothes for a little bit again... Why does the weather tease us so much?! These pumps are an absolute lifesaver today too. After so much walking round this week, I seem to have a huge lump on the back of my right foot (like a blister... but not) and it's painful! These are so comfortable though and don't rub my feet, so I'm glad I bought these last week now. I love the colour of them too - definitely suitable for summer :)

The event this week was great - actually learnt so much and found it all very interesting. I particularly loved the sessions on social media & journalism though - completely my thing! Met some interesting people too, so all in all, definitely a success in my eyes! I desperately need to catch up on sleep now though, I struggled in the office today. One more day left and then I'm off home for the weekend though - CANNOT WAIT!

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Lip Protectant

Now I'm half way through my work event, I can pretty much guarantee that my lips will be very sore, dry and chapped. Stupid air conditioning. Last time we had an event (it was my first one) I completely forgot to bring any lip balm with me. After the first day, the top of my lip went bright red and cracked - it was like I had drawn on lipliner just on the top, and then sucked all the moisture out of it so it was red raw. It was horrendous. I'm never making that mistake again... Which brings me to this review of Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Lip Protectant.

I was recommended this by the mother (oh how she knows her stuff!) and I really haven't looked back since. I never go anywhere without it - it's my go-to product and I use it everyday to make sure my lips are hydrated and soft.

The packaging is adorable - I think it was a limited edition style, but I bought it online (slightly cheaper than the original brand packaging!) so I guess that's why I managed to get it. Reminds me of hippies/60s era (not that I was born then, but you get what I mean)!

The product itself doesn't last very long on your lips. I do find myself having to reapply quite often. I don't mind this too much though as I like to make sure that it's working, which it does! It moisturises my lips and ensures that the air con stays well away from them! The balm is very soothing - if my lips do start getting sore, this doesn't irritate or sting when applied, like some products do. I know some people say that if you can feel it, then it's working... but with this product, you don't feel a thing, but it does work (so definitely a better choice). It's also got SPF15, which will be great during the summer days!

You can buy it from Feel Unique for around £17 (the going rate if you bought it at a counter)... I think I only paid around £10 for mine though from Cheap Smells. It's not available on that website anymore though, so it might have been part of a sale... You might be able to find it cheap elsewhere!

OPI Malaga Wine and Gold Shatter

I think it’s safe to say that OPI nail polish is one of the best ‘go-to’ ranges around, yes? I never really owned anything from OPI, mainly because of the price tag, but I figured I needed to bite the bullet and order some nice polishes. Luckily for me, QVC had a fab deal on at the time, which offered quite a few gorgeous products for just over £30. Now, considering one nail polish comes in at around £10, and I got 4, plus a load of handcreams, Nail Envy and Avoplex cuticle oil, I'd say that was pretty amazing value for money.

I did go for the offer purely for the Nail Envy and Avoplex oil if I'm honest (like I said, absolute bargain with the rest of it!) but I wasn’t overly sure about the offered colours, if I’m honest. I’m not much of a fan of red (says the girl with red hair) or gold, but I thought I’d give them the benefit of the doubt, and I’m very glad I did.

I stupidly didn't take a photo before adding the Gold Shatter, but you still get the idea of what it looks like.
And I needed to tidy it up BIG TIME.

Malaga Wine is a deep crimson red shade, very glossy and shiny on your nails. Definitely more of an 'Autumn/Winter shade', so I doubt I'll wear this again for a while now (I need pastels in my life!) but that doesn't stop it from being such a gorgeous colour. It was very easy to apply, and only need a couple of coats to be fully opaque on your nail. It's one of the best 'red' shades I've come across to be honest - it's just a classic go-to colour that goes with anything. I found that it actually gives off two different shades depending on lighting. The photos show a bright, vibrant red, but if the lighting is natural/darker, the colour is more deep.

Decided to experiment the gold shatter on top, and I love it. I did mess up applying it, as it sort of ended up as one big blob on my fingernail, but some of them worked out pretty well! I blame the thickness of the polish (and the fact I was just rubbish at applying it). I never thought I’d like gold shatter but I do. It's such a strong gold shade, and sticks by its colour too - it really doesn't disappoint. Very striking and makes a great effect on your nails if you want to make a statement. Hopefully I'll make it work better next time... It probably needs a thinner coat so it creates a better cracked effect.

Do you have any trouble with OPI's Shatter polishes? What's your favourite OPI polish?

LDN bound

Top: Topshop
Skirt: Primark
Shoes: New Look
Tights: Primark
Rings: Handmade and Frooly
Necklace: Handmade
Watch: Fossil

Possibly the quickest blog post EVER... Bought this skirt yesterday after seeing it on Steph's blog. I love the jersey material; it is very light to wear and the fishtail at the back means I don’t have to worry about the skirt lifting up or anything! Usually skirts are quite short on me, so I’m impressed that this is a decent length. I do think it’ll shrink in the wash though, so I may have to be a bit careful with that... But as it only cost me £8, it won’t be the end of the world. I’d be able to team a lot of different tops with it as well, so it’s very versatile. Ended up just throwing on a black vest though, as I’m travelling to London, there’s no point in me dressing up for the occasion! Sometimes simplicity is best. The shoes are also new... I needed some new casual pumps, and these beauties were £7. They're so comfortable, so definitely a necessity for travelling today, but I’ve only worn them for a few hours (and majority of that time has been sat down) so I could eat my words soon...

Just another quick thing before I dash off to LDN... If you’re interested in social media and marketing, please follow my Twitter work accounts @Dani_Millward and/or @MarketTechNews ! I’ll be tweeting from the event over the next two days, and I know that there’s going to be some really interesting stuff going on... You can also follow the hashtag #SMWF :) Obviously, if you don’t care much about social media, then don’t... Just saying.

pumped up kicks

Dress: Topshop
Shoes: New Look
Belt: Primark
Rings: Clothes Show Live
Necklace: ASOS
Sunglasses: Fake Raybans from Greece

I was stressing out this morning, as I've realised majority of my summer clothes are back home at the moment. Luckily I found this little gem that I bought in the Topshop sale last year. I've never been overly fussed about polkadots but this dress has helped change my mind. I love the eye-popping blue colour on it against the white. I love the cut out at the back as well - just the slightest detail can make such a difference to what could have been just a standard outfit. Definite awkward tan line situation though when the sun comes out properly.

I'm off to London tomorrow with work for a few days, so yet again it's going to be a schedule-filled week for this blog. I might be able to get an outfit post up at some point, as I'll be taking my trusty camera and laptop with me (for work purposes)... But chances are it'll happen when I'm back, as I'll be too exhausted in the evenings to blog! I'm already counting down for next weekend though so I can sleep the week off... I'll be a zombie by Thursday. I'm also devastated I'll be missing out on the sunshine this week as I'll be indoors at our event the whole time. I wonder if I could get away with summery clothes at the event... I think not.

talk that talk

Shirt: Topshop
Shorts: Topshop
Tights: Primark
Shoes: River Island
Scrabble ring: Handmade

How beautiful was the weather today?! Any excuse to get the shorts out (although definitely not ready for bare legs) and kept the jacket firmly in the wardrobe. I always feel like I should work in a Baskin Robbins with this shirt, but it's so light to wear, and I love stripes and the shade of it, so that thought won't stop me. I'm so excited to get my summer wardrobe out properly - I miss wearing my dresses, wedges, sunglasses... If this weather continues, they might have to have a proper outing later in the week.

I've suddenly decided to do something that I haven't done in 4 years... Join a gym. I know, I know, 4 years is a long time... I blame university for that. I joined the student gym during my first year, went twice (so equalled to £25 a visit) and my membership lasted 3 months. Never. Again. I actually feel really driven and almost 'excited' to start getting fit again and regularly go to a gym and hopefully meet some new people here in Bristol! Definitely going to make the most of the classes too... Pole dancing and zumba, anyone?!

last friday night

Shirt: Topshop
Leggings: Topshop
Wedges: New Look
Hat: Urban Outfitters
Bracelets: Topshop
Ring: Handmade by me

I completely forgot that I didn't post what I wore last Friday... so what better time than the following Friday! I absolutely adore this cream sheer shirt that I luckily found in Topshop the other week. I seem to be fond of sheer shirts now, especially ones long enough to wear over leggings. To be fair, I did wear a cream vest underneath (well, I was on a train in this outfit from 3pm last week, so I needed to keep some dignity). I didn't wear the hat either, but I do like it with this, but only if worn during the day. I have yet to wear that hat so I just had to throw it in here, even with my ridiculous facial expression. The wedges are perfect too, the right height, easy to walk in... For £20, I really can't complain!

As for this weekend... I have no idea what's going on. I was hoping to attend Bristol Fashion Week for the live blogging event this afternoon, but I don't finish work in time. Boooo. Hopefully meeting some people for a few drinks after... but if not, I guess a relaxing lonely weekend is on the cards in order to build up my energy for next week's event! I definitely need to enjoy the sunshine somehow though... I'm seriously loving the weather this week! :)

#JPP12

via weheartit

This time last year, I remember feeling very stressed out, thinking that I wasn't going to achieve what I managed to in the end. There was on module though that I really enjoyed, and helped kickstart my career and carry on blogging the way I do now. Journalism Professional Practices (or JPP). You may remember me mentioning Silhouette? Well that was my blog with 3 lovely girls, and I'm so proud of what we achieved.

Looking back, there's so much more we could have done, but didn't really know how or what was best... Now I do. So much so, that when I went to visit my university last month, I was intrigued to see how developed the module has become and what the students are doing. I guess the course has become a lot more 'social media' orientated, as they were already pretty clued up! I've been keeping check on what's happening on each blog, and there are a few that have really caught my eye lately (in no particular order).

I Have Never - Very original concept that they've taken (and it's not all about the drinking game), but this page in particular I think you would find pretty entertaining, involving three guys and make-up. Intrigued beauty bloggers? You should be. To be fair, their stories are great as well, but their challenge videos offer something different (something which I never saw (or did) last year).

Diverse Mag - I have a soft spot for this blog, as I met the girls last month (who are all lovely!) and gave them a few tricks of the trade. I've got high hopes for them! They cover a range of issues, from health, parenting and relationships, so they've got a lot to offer with their articles. I've also noticed a couple of them have since set up their own blogs - Terri and Gemma - so check those out too!

The Beauty Spot - another great blog, which I had to share with you... I specifically like their 'Old Wive's Tales' page, testing out old beauty regimes. Very funny, and fair play to trying them out in the name of journalism! With articles on airbrushing, fashion and botox (to list just a few), they do offer a broad range in the world of beauty, so go have a look :)

The Awkward Pint - With their weekly 'Man of the Week' features, their last choice had a lot of retweets/coverage, and rightly so. I'm personally a fan of their Twitter feed, as they always draw me into what is going on in their blog - I know they've got quite a few stories planned, so very intrigued to see what they come up with next. The blog also has a photo of Wills and Harry, so that should be enough to draw you to it (it helped me).

Don't get me wrong, all the JPP blogs are fab, so if you want to check out the other blogs click here for the JPP blog list on Twitter :)

Well, I have a feeling I have lost weight as these jeans are a lot looser than I remember. I've washed them since wearing them too, so if anything, they should be too tight. Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased that I've managed to shift a little bit of weight off, but I'm gutted these no longer look right on me as these are favourite pair of jeans. I could buy a new pair but I can't afford it right now... But I don't want to start eating so much again just to fit into them. Oh the predicament! Anyway, teamed them with my Primark top that I haven't worn in aaaages. I bought it a good few months ago, it's very light and 'floaty, very easy to just throw on. It'll be great in the summer, although I might look out for a lighter shade for the warmer weather.

Busy busy busy (yes, three times) at work this week because of our social media event coming up. I'm actually pretty excited about it. It's going to be full on insane, with very little sleep and a lot of running around, but it should be good. Going to have a chilled out weekend, filled with holiday and bikini shopping (which is actually starting tonight). I'm so excited about my much needed girly holiday!

I seem to be going through a phase of choosing songs for post titles now... I guess it's because I listen to them so much every day, they just get stuck in my head. Very original...

sunshine after the rain

Top: Topshop
Leggings: Primark
Shoes: New Look
Scarf: Birthday present
Sunglasses: Topshop
Rings: Handmade by me (still selling so let me know if interested!)

The sun was out this morning, but I think I overestimated it! Yes, it may be the first day of spring, but I need to remind myself that it's still only March, therefore can still be chilly! I loved walking to work with my sunglasses on though... But it didn't last as they were safely in my handbag on the way back. I did add a thin grey cardigan on top so I wasn't too stupid when the weather cooled down later in the day (and my Barbour jacket too)! Plus my ankles were bloomin' cold... Brrrr.

I hadn't worn these leggings since I bought them though, so I was very excited to dig them out for the first time! They only cost £6 as well - complete bargain and so comfortable too. They're ankle grazers though, which I've never gone for before... Unless they're not and I'm just too tall for them. Hmm. Either way, I'm looking forward to being able to wear these a lot more in the summer months. I love this season's colours so much - definitely help brighten up the wardrobe and brighten up my mood! Bring on the sunshine! And yes, I realise I'm wearing the same shoes over and over again lately. Slight overkill.

I wanna bang it

Yes I'm drunk in the last one...
Dress: Topshop
Blazer: Topshop
Bag: Topshop
Shoes: New Look

Decided to wear my birthday dress on st Patricks Day in Sheffield... It's been a while since I last wore it (well, since December to be exact) so I thought it was due for a showing! I still adore this dress... So glad it hasn't shrunk in the wash, but the skirt is quite stretchy so it doesn't crawl up too much. It's pretty flattering as well so it made me feel good (ha).

I had such a good weekend up in Sheffield. Met up with some old uni friends at various points during the weekend, but the reunion with my uni homegirl Vicky aka Vickster was definitely long overdue! It felt like it only yesterday since we last saw each other (when really it was back at graduation in November)! I honestly don't think I stopped smiling the entire weekend. I didn't want to leave, but alas, I'm back in Bristol, back to reality and have nothing more to look forward to.

Also have to mention quickly, the title is a memorable quote from Vicky during our night out. It's not as bad as it sounds. She meant a set of drums. Bless her...

And yes that is a baby on the mugs. My baby niece Emily in fact!

Just a super quick post tonight, but it must be said.

Happy Mothers Day (and happy birthday on Wednesday) to the most fabulous mum EVER. Honestly don't know where I'd be without her (or my dad, of course!) and I hope she's had the most wonderful day today. Love you mum! ♥

and happy Mother's Day to all you yummy mummies out there too! :)

Vest: ASOS
Gilet: H&M
Leggings: Topshop
Shoes: New Look
Necklace: Babi-Online

I wore this on Thursday for another day at work... Yes, I know, delayed much? I thought I'd save this one for during the weekend, simply because I'm in Sheffield right now and won't be able to post any outfits whilst I'm here! (Also writing all this in advance, so technically I'm lying until you read this. Anyway...) It took me forever to find a plain long vest that I can just throw on and wear with leggings. They're really practical and useful and you can dress them up or down, however you want. I must admit though, I swapped the fur gilet for a denim shirt as it's still a little bit too cold to have no sleeves altogether!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend, whether you're celebrating St Patricks Day or not! Like I said, I'm in Sheffield now... and if my plan is going well, I should be with my lovely friend Vicky right now, who I haven't seen since graduation, potentially with a glass of wine in hand. Yes I realise it's only 1pm. That's just how we used to do it in Sheffield back as students! And I guess you could say we're just pretending to be students again... No harm.
