MAC Girl About Town Lipstick | Review

MAC Lipstick in Girl About Town - £15

Am I the last beauty blogger to own MAC's Girl About Town? More than likely, but better late than never. My mum actually bought me this from Schiphol Airport in Holland, which is slightly cheaper than in the UK (only by £2-3, but every little helps).

I'm seriously impressed with the vibrant pink shade, and didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. The pigmentation is fab, but I also like the fact you can lightly apply it so you only get a slight shade of pink. Sometimes I don't want bright lips! MAC actually classes this lipstick as a 'bright blue fuchsia', and although I haven't seen any hints of blue (scream at me if I'm wrong there), the bright fuchsia is very daring to wear and not for people who don't like to make a statement.

I actually find it pretty drying, so I have to make sure I moisturise my lips enough before application. I could also add some lipgloss too, especially for an evening look. It's a shame as it is quite a creamy formula, but it just doesn't like my lips at the moment. I'm hoping this will change when summer comes and my lips go back to normal!

Every girl needs a splash of pink on their lips, and I do recommend this one as long as you don't suffer from dry lips like I do. Apart from the negative, the colour in general is the perfect addition to your collection.

Beauty UK High Brow All in One Brow Kit | Review

Beauty UK High Brow All in One Brow Kit - £3.99

If there's one thing I have to do before I leave the house, it's drawing my eyebrows on. That sounds weird, but it's true. My eyebrows seem so pale if I don't add some more colour to them, especially with my bright hair! I've been looking for the best budget brow kit, and after falling in and out of love with the MUA Pro Brow Eyebrow Kit, I found that Beauty UK also stock a cheap alternative to our much beloved HD Eye & Brow Palette.

I'm not 100% experienced with Beauty UK, but this eyebrow kit is just amazing. It's very compact and small, so you can easily fit it in your makeup bag. The clasp seems quite strong too, so I'm hoping the packaging stays locked shut (as both clasps in the MUA and HD Brows kits broke. Cue eyebrow shades spilling everywhere).

It comes with a dainty little brush, plus tweezers for any strays, which is perfect as 9/10 I forget to pack tweezers with me when I go away. The cream gel helps to tame and shape your eyebrows, without looking greasy or wet.

I tend to mix the two top shades together to get the right colour for my brows. You really don't need to apply much as the pigmentation is brilliant and really takes hold on the hair. Saying that, be a bit careful when applying... If you're in a rush and it ends up on your skin, it will stay there. It's staying power throughout the day is pretty good too, as it usually lasts the whole day.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this product and is possibly my favourite brow kit at the moment, even over the HD Eye & Brow palette! For £4, you can't really go wrong.

The Lipstick Tag

I've noticed the Lipstick Tag doing the rounds lately, so I thought I would try it out myself! I don't wear lipstick as much as I would like to... Mainly due to laziness and forgetfulness. However, after typing out my answers, I think I should really start using up my collection before buying anymore!

I invite you all to do this Tag too :) it's a bit of fun anyway, and you might be pleasantly surprised by your lip collection too!

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
I own 29 in total, but that's including lipglosses and lipbalms!

2. What was your first lipstick?
Probably a Natural Collection or 17 pale pink lipstick. I obviously don't own it anymore, but that used to be my colour of choice when I knew no better.

3.What is your favourite brand for lipstick?
I love ELF's range of lipsticks as they never dry my lips and the pigmentation is gorgeous. I also love using MAC, but as long as my lips are moisturised well beforehand.

4.What is your most worn lipstick?
Either MAC's Lovelorn or ELF's Beautiful Berry. Two pink based lipsticks (in light and dark shades) but really nice to wear in the daytime.

5.What is your favourite finish?
I much prefer a creamy/glossy finish, as matte finishes always dries my lips! I find a more creamy formula stays on for longer in the day and doesn't end up like a weird lipliner...

6. What was the last lip product you bought?
My mum bought me two L'Oreal's Glam Shine Balmy Glosses, but the last lip product I actually bought was Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Lip Protectant! My favourite lip product of all time, and a great base before applying lipstick!

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your handbag? (Including balms and glosses)
I have 3 at the moment... 1 Maybelline Baby Lips, 1 Cymex relief cream and my Elizabeth Arden product :) I don't tend to wear lipstick etc whilst at work, so I try to keep the amount to a minimum.

8. How do you store your lipsticks?
I've currently got a small acrylic holder, that stores 7 lipsticks at the moment, and then the rest are squished in one of my acrylic makeup drawers.

9.What lipstick do you use to rock a red lip?
At the moment I'm using Clinique's Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino - a fab lip product that keeps my lips moisturised whilst adding a lovely pop of red! I recently wrote a review on it here :)

10.What lip products are you currently lusting after?
I'm not lusting after a specific product, but the brand I'm most lusting after is YSL. I've been wanting a lipstick by YSL for ages, but I can never justify spending so much money on one! I also want a Paul & Joe lipstick, purely because it's shaped like a cat! Maybe one day... *hint hint*

I was scared of dentists and the dark | Outfit

Zara shirt. Primark trousers.

I've owned these Primark tartan trousers for a while, but I always struggle to decide what top to wear with them. I try to team it with a plain coloured top, so the outfit isn't too quirky (as I seem to have lost my confidence in uber quirky clothing!) but I've still added that much needed colour. I dug out my old but trusty Zara pink shirt as it was definitely a 'look smart at work' day (I couldn't resist wearing some tartan too) and I really like how smart and simple this outfit is.

The trousers surprisingly fit really well, are a decent length and the material is pretty comfortable too. I really hope Primark launch some more trousers in this style, as it's not every day you find a pair of Primark trousers that are so easy to wear!

Ever get the feeling you're taking so much on and it's running you down a bit? Yeah that. I was suddenly ill at the weekend, which has had a knock-on effect on how I'm feeling this week. I know I don't do myself any favours though, so it kind of serves me right! Even my knees are playing up... I know they're considering swelling up like they did last year. I'm counting down for the weekend when I will ban myself from working/blogging and get back to my good ol' self. Do you have any tips on how to get yourself back in order?

In other news, the weekend wasn't all bad. I bought the most amazing bargain from a charity shop... A very old/antique gramophone! You can see it on my Instagram here (go on, give us a follow yeah? please...) and I love it so much. Granted, I don't have a house to put it in yet, so it's filled up part of my parent's dining room, but still! It's mine and Alex's little project to get it working again (as unfortunately people were stealing parts in the charity shop, so now it doesn't work! How awful is that?!) but it's going to look pretty sweet :)

Also, it's mine and Alex's one year anniversary today...  I won't bore you with mushy stuff, but where the bleedin'ell has that time gone?!

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino | Review

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino - £17

I love Clinique's range of Chubby Sticks and have been an avid user of its Curvy Candy shade for a while now. I received one of the new additions for Christmas and I'm even more of a fan of it now!

The Intense range does exactly what it says on the box. The colour is so much more intense, acting like the perfect alternative to your favourite lipstick shade whilst still being moisturising.

The Mightiest Maraschino is a gorgeous classic red shade, which lasts throughout the day. It's very easy to apply and you really don't need to apply much before the colour arrives. Also, it didn't dry my lips like lipsticks tend to do - my lips still felt nourished and moisturised with a lovely glossy shine.

The Intense range (judging by this one) is right up my street compared to the first range, as the colour pigmentation is so much stronger! I can't wait to get my hands on another.

Have you tried Clinique's Chubby Stick Intense range?

It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it | Outfit

Coat, dress and necklace: Topshop

I received this gorgeous coat for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I originally wanted the much loved pink coat, but with my hair colour I didn't think it would suit me. Green has always been one of the better colours for me to wear, and this dark green is perfect. It makes the coat look more classic than the pastels shades available (which are still to die for). I'm so glad my mum found this for me, as I've craved the pink coat for so long but I love this even more!

It's not the warmest of coats, and it's very fitted so I can't layer up very well either! Once the extremely cold weather disappears, I'll be able to wear it more often and I can't wait.

Just a quick update from me, hopefully you'll be seeing some much better photos on this blog very soon. I've replaced my much loved and used Nikon D60 for a Canon 600D (yep, I've crossed over to the dark side) :) I absolutely love my camera, especially as it was a Christmas present from Alex and part promotion treat from myself! I need to get used to using it though, and I'm considering a photography course to help me get better. My parents are actually taking us out for lunch at one of my favourite local(ish) pubs today to celebrate said promotion. Cheeky wine on a Sunday afternoon, why not..!

Hope you're having a fabulous weekend :)

Redken Velvet Gelatine 07 Cushioning Blow Dry Gel | Review

Redken Velvet Gelatine 07 Cushioning Blow-Dry Gel* - £15.30 (c/o The Salon Look)

I'm a bit lazy when it comes to blow drying my hair. I literally bend my head forward and blow dry away. Very messy and very frizzy, but it's the only way I can ensure I get enough volume without relying on so many products.

I was intrigued to see whether this product by Redken would do the job, so I can blow dry and style my hair at the same time, and my hair looks tame whilst keeping the maximum volume I want.

When I first used the product, I made sure I used a small amount just in case it made my hair look greasy. It didn't do such thing. It's gel-like formula (and it really does feel like a velvety gel) is very soft, easy to use and your damp hair absorbs it really well. Your hair still looks freshly clean when dried too, which is great as I was worried it'll become heavy!

It actually smells really nice too - not too overpowering with a mix of floral and citrus scents. My hair looked shiny and smooth after use and helped me to create the look I always crave for with the added body and texture. I still have a bit of trouble with flyaway hairs though, but I've got so many of those that it's nothing a bit of hairspray can't sort out afterwards, so it's no biggy.

Have you tried any Redken products before?

I thought I found the connector | Outfit

Topshop dress & necklace

A Topshop sale special, I've been eyeing up this dress for a while and when I found it in the sale for cheapy cheap, I pretty much went straight to the till with it! I wore this number on Boxing Day, but I love that it's quite a versatile dress.

You can dress this up with a big statement necklace and a lovely pair of heels, or dress down with military boots. I feel both smart and comfortable in this dress, and the length is just right to keep my dignity.

How's January treating you so far? I've got a bit of a case of the January blues, but it hasn't been as bad as I thought! I'm concentrating on exciting things happening throughout the year, including anniversary, holiday, moving out... and luckily I've had a fab start to 2014 with a cheeky promotion at work too!

Now excuse me a moment whilst I go and check the last of the sales... Who would have thought buying plates would be so exciting.

Mental health is not a joke, okay Urban Outfitters?

It's not every day I feel the need to rant on my blog... It's been a fair while to be honest. However, after seeing the lovely Laura's tweet this evening, I couldn't resist but vent a bit of anger! Anyone noticed this from the delightful Urban Outfitters..?

Since when was it okay for brands to publicise mental health in such a way? Why is it fashionable to wear DEPRESSION DEPRESSION DEPRESSION all over your chest?

I'm not going to go into my personal and private life, but those of you that know me will know that mental health in one way or another is a part of my life, and I won't rest until people are made aware of it and this god damn awful and stupid stigma goes away for good.

It's pathetic. It's pointless. It's people like the Urban Outfitters designers who throw those words around because it's "cool to be depressed." Excuse the language, but fuck off out of your dreamworld and maybe you'll finally realise that it shouldn't be joked about. Anorexia isn't a joke, and neither is depression.

Urban Outfitters, you actually disgust me. I've let your previous controversial clothing slide before, but this is one topic too far. Even if these are old (I knew of the Eat Less tee a while back), it's still around and still as stupid as when they were first released. The US is actually still selling the Depression tee here.

Seriously though... Who the hell said these t-shirts were okay to sell?!
